Imagination Library

A Program of Morrison County United Way

How it Works…

In 2004 Morrison County United Way became local heroes when they joined forces with the Dollywood Foundation to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the Morrison County community.

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Morrison County United Way provides 1 free book per month to children living in Morrison County who are under the age of 5 and enrolled in the program.

Our logic wasn’t based on the belief that children don’t have books, although for some that is an issue, our logic was based on the notion that a new book addressed to the child would cause excitement while the beautiful, enticing illustrations would inspire enough curiosity and wonder to cause any child to squeal the words…read to me!

Children who are read to at a very young age grow up associating love and comfort with the act of reading and as an added bonus it bolsters their preparedness for kindergarten, later learning and increases the likelihood that they will grow up to be proficient readers.

Every month a new, carefully selected book is mailed to each child enrolled in the program. Children must be under the age of 5 and live in the Morrison County school area.  To participate download the registration form or pick up a brochure at the Morrison County United Way Office located on the second floor of the old courthouse directly under the clock tower.

Eight to ten weeks after your registration form is received, books will begin arriving at your home and will continue to arrive until your child turns 5 or moves out of the Morrison County school area.
